I suppose we all saw this one coming. Especially after they silently added regional networks and announced the advertising deal they forged with Microsoft.

Over the next month Facebook will open up to anyone that has e-mail.

I have to say I have mixed feelings about this because I appreciated how Facebook was limited only to students. Of course this is a great way for them to profit and to improve the service we love so much. I just hope they keep a few things in mind in the process:

1. Don’t forget where you came from and why you were initially created
2. Instead of trying to outdo MySpace, continue to focus on what they don’t (eg. school and friends)
3. We are probably better off without some features (custom profiles/music/bulletins)

Those are my thoughts. I will look forward to see how things go in the meantime and can’t wait until I can ditch Myspace entirely.
