While $50 is still less than 10% of the total cost of the order, it was more than enough to make me wait another two weeks – which means the e-mail I wrote for the company executives was saved instead of being sent.

According to the initial order (the cost was $595) the chairs were $316 and the rest of the table, including the glass, was worth $279. This means that if the glass was half of that, I only paid for 65% of it.

The fifth glass top actually shipped on January 2nd, but was coming via FedEx again, so I didn’t expect much of it either (tracking #704104660115070). This one must have been rushed since it said it would arrive in two days.

Now, I should explain a few other things about Hillsdale Furniture and CSN Stores.

Glass tops are obviously hard to ship. In order for both you and the shipping company to be insured against loss in the event that something does go wrong, you are required to be there when the delivery is made. You are to inspect the box and items before accepting the shipment, and then must sign for it if everything looks ok.

There is even a large warning on the outside of the box that says so, and to refuse the delivery if the box contains even the slightest dent — I know this because the first glass top (the one Land-Air shattered but still delivered) is sitting in a box in my garage until I figure out how to dispose of it.

This glass top, the fifth one they sent, actually made it all the way to Wichita and on to the delivery truck without breaking. It did not however, make it to our door without breaking.
